15/11/08 - Back to winning ways
East Kilbride Thistle 2-3 Clydebank, Showpark
THE BANKIES emphatically returned to winning ways for the first time in the league since September thanks to a five-goal thriller at the Showpark. Clydebank certainly put on a show with Mark Hailstones, Paul Allum and Charlie Hobbs in particular impressing. With a few injuries Budgie McGhie was forced to shuffle things about a touch, putting Hailstones on the left wing and Allum in central midfield. A back three of Rushford, McInnes and Soutar was put in place and wide on the right instead of Allum was Brian Smith. Hobbs missed a penalty within the first five minutes after being chopped down just inside the area but made amends by latching on to a great Hailstones cross to send his diving header into the far corner of the net. Hobbs turned provider with ten minutes of the first half remaining, crossing it in for Allum to curl it around a defender and go in off the post. Just before half time Thistle hit back when Clydebank couldn't clear the danger and Darren Moore tucked his effort past Gonet. But Brian Smith provided the Bankies with a two-goal lead again when latching on to another fine Hailstones cross to volley it past Thistle keeper McDonald, before a nice free-kick from Alan McCrae got Thistle back into the game for a tense finale. But Thistle saw red late on as Benjami Njemo received a second booking, and Clydebank held on to claim all three points
So with a much-needed league victory, Clydebank next play Hurlford United at Holm Park, in what will be only the third home league match this season. At present the Bankies have had five away league matches in a row, so it'll be nice to finally see Holm Park again. Hurlford have had mixed fortunes this season, their Sectional League Cup campaign started very well as their biggest scalp was beating Irvine Meadow. But in the league they lost a few games on the trot, before winning against Kilsyth to get their first points of the season in mid-October. Their only other point arrived on Saturday just past, drawing 1-1 with Port Glasgow. Realistically Clydebank should look to win all their home games to be serious promotion contenders, and especially so against teams currently struggling in the league. Lanark, Maybole, Kilbirnie, Renfrew and Kilwinning have all registered wins against Hurlford this season but the Bankies need to make sure to show no signs of complacency and put in a strong performance against a team who are surely desperate to turn around their form. Don't forget, kick-offs are now 1:45pm as it gets dark a lot earlier.

Clydebank Till I Die
Welcome to 'Clydebank Till I Die', an unofficial website from a supporter of one of the best teams in the land, Clydebank FC. Because of this I must stress the fact that all content in this website should not be regarded as the views of Clydebank FC - so I should be allowed to say that, for example, Largs are time-wasting gits and they should fully understand that it's just one supporter's opinion and not that of Clydebank FC.
The purpose of this website is to give supporters an alternative place to visit - there's the excellent Official Clydebank FC Website too, and the Bankies Banter forums also to visit. This website will also have those all-important video highlights that I'm responsible for.
This website is hosted by Charlie Archibald, so a massive thanks to him - visit his own website by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. Instead of letting him, a professional web designer by trade, design this website I had a go myself to try and see how much I've improved since those olden days of helping the THIAF lads out years ago!
